WILD Aboriginal Youth Leadership Program Offerings
The Aboriginal Youth Leadership Program consists of Outdoor Leadership Expeditions; these are multi-day backpacking trips into the remote backcountry of Tahltan Territory and is for youth aged 17 to 29. The Aboriginal Youth Leadership Program is designed specifically to address the leadership and life skill needs of aboriginal youth from urban and rural communities.
There are three goals of W.I.L.D ™ - Aboriginal Youth is to provide:
Leadership Expeditions
The expeditions are 5 or 7 day backpacking treks to an established rustic base camp. The youth will camp at the base camp and conduct daily hikes. Each day hike youth will be exposed to navigation techniques, trailside stories of the land and leadership scenarios. At the end of each day youth will participate in campfire learning sessions and facilitated group discussions about colonization, decolonization, current aboriginal issues, and aboriginal rights and title. For additional outdoor leadership experience the youth will also be assigned daily camp chores.
The Caribou Creek camp trailhead is 10 km south Dease Lake and the camp is located 30 km east of highway 37. The Tanzilla River camp trailhead is 12 km south of Dease Lake and the camp is located 10 km east of highway 37.
There is a cost per youth. Edziza Trails will assist youth in securing sponsorship. Enquire about existing donated trips.

W.I.L.D Caribou Leadership Camp
This is new for 2018, this camp will be run from Edziza Trails base camp in the Caribou Creek area 30 km east of Dease Lake on the Boulder Road. Participants will experience basic backcountry survival skills of fire and shelter building, navigation & travel, basic backcountry first aid, simple creek crossing techniques and basic bush skills.
This survival camp is open to all interested persons including aboriginal youth.

W.I.L.D Tanzilla Leadership Camp
This late winter camping trip is for aboriginal youth. Youth will learn about winter camping in late winter/early spring weather conditions. It is a great opportunity to experience winter camping in mild weather conditions.
